Going Local down in Rochester

The latest Produced in Kent member event took us to Rochester High Street and Cafe Nucleus. Hot on the heels of winning Kent Coffee Shop or Tea Room at the 2019 Taste of Kent Awards for their Chatham venue, Cafe Nucleus opened here in May.

Café Nucleus support the works of the Halpern Charitable foundation which founded Nucleus Arts. Sourcing locally has been a key part of their philosophy from the beginning. Members were warmly welcomed and had a chance to enjoy the beautifully restored Conservancy building before hearing from Aaron about Cafe Nucleus.

From careful sourcing and building long term relationships with suppliers (several of whom were there) to the carefully chosen palms and orchids and the Harry Potter in the toilets every detail is considered. " Winning the award was a real endorsement of the teams hard work and it meant a lot to us that our customers voted for us and the judges had such good things to say " said Aaron.

Members then heard from Nathan Martin of Kent Trading Standards about the changes in the in the law and to food hygiene ratings (from now on a business with poor allergen management can only hope for a 3* rating at best). After a hard hitting video Nathan gave an update on the new allergen management training course developed by Kent Trading Standards.

Members were then treated to some samples from the new seasonal small plates evening menu, even oysters - we didn't manage to get a snap as everyone was enjoying it too much!

A huge thank you to the team at Cafe Nucleus for making us feel so welcome. We will be putting together the schedule of member events over the next few weeks - if any members want to host and showcase their business please email jill.sargent@producedinkent.co.uk
