The World of Christmas Trees at Hole Park

The latest members event saw us welcomed to Hole Park near Rolvenden by owner Edward Barham. It was all aboard the tractors and trailers for a short drive to the plantations.

Hole Park have been growing Christmas trees for over 60 years and are members of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association. They grow three main varieties and plant 15,000 to 18, 0000 trees a year. One thing that struck the members was the time it can take to grow a 6ft tree (6-8 years) and how they are carefully hand pruned each year to ensure the perfect shape and distribution of branches when they make it into our homes and businesses.

While specialist Danish equipment is used for maintaining the plantation much of the work is done by hand and through experience. The trees are cut fresh on the day requested and carefully netted - this year will see a transition from plastic to bio degradable netting. Expert guidance is given on selection and aftercare.

From the ever popular Norway Spruce, to the softer foliage of the Nordman Fir, to the specialist Blue Spruce, each tree is selected once it is deemed to be the right height and shape. While the average home might fit a 5ft tree, Hole Park can provide trees up to 20ft for business locations or those with very high ceilings!

Hole Park supply many local retailers and always welcome enquiries from anyone wanting to stock quality locally grown trees or buy for their business . See contact details and brochures below.

On return to the courtyard there was a chance to sample local dairy produce from Hinxden Farm Dairy and cider from Nightingale Cider, along with tea and homemade cakes from the Hole Park tearoom. To top off the Christmas theme AJ from Sharp Relations gave some top tips for getting yourself noticed, including being ready for Christmas as early as July!

The next members event will be in early November.
